2 pedestrians hospitalized in Cave Creek wrong-way crash

A Chevrolet pickup truck traveling in the wrong direction on April 3 in Cave Creek hit three adult pedestrians, eight parked motorcycles and a stopped GMC pickup truck, according to a statement from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

As the Chevrolet pickup truck exited the parking lot of Harold's Corral in Cave Creek, the driver entered Cave Creek Road in the wrong direction, according to a written statement from Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesperson David Moyer.

The truck collided with several vehicles and three adult pedestrians around 7:11 p.m., Moyer said.

The statement did not clarify if the vehicles and pedestrians were in the parking lot or on the street.

Sheriff's deputies saw signs of alcohol impairment in the suspected driver, Moyer said.

Two of the pedestrians were taken to a hospital after suffering serious injuries, including head injuries and a "significant abdominal laceration," Moyer said.

The hospital determined the injuries to be life-threatening, he added.

Harold's Corral hosted activities for Cave Creek Bike Week, according to its website.

"There were bike week activities all weekend in Cave Creek," Moyer said.

This was an ongoing investigation, he said.
