Wintry showers are likely, especially over higher ground in the north, and a widespread frost – with icy patches for some – is possible on Wednesday night
It should be a little milder again by the end of the week, with many areas seeing another spell of rain on Friday
” The Met Office forecast says Wednesday will be a ‘cold and blustery day’, with a mixture of sunshine and showers across the UK
It added: “Some of the showers will be heavy, with hail and thunder and also falling as snow over the hills
Temperatures widely below average
” Tonight, clear spells are expected to result in a cold night, potentially dropping to -5C in rural Scotland, with frost and ice possible in places, forecasters added
The Met Office forecast for Thursday (March 26) states: “A sunny but chilly start
However, cloud will thicken from the west through the morning with outbreaks of rain moving across much of Northern Ireland and Scotland during the afternoon
